SAMMIE THE SNORKIE-GIVING A DOG A PILL....

Hello Everyone

All of you pet owners out there know what a challenge it is to give your dog a pill, and Sammie is certainly no exception. The following is what happened today when I tried to give Sammie The Snorkie her vitamin pill:

1. Pick Sammie up and cradle her in the crook of my left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of Sam's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As she opens her mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow her to close mouth and swallow.

2. Retrieve pill from floor and Sammie from behind sofa. Cradle Sam in left arm and repeat process.

3. Retrieve Sam from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle Sammie in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of 10.

4. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and Sammie from top of dresser. Call hubby from outside.

5. Kneel on floor with Sam wedged firmly between knees, holding front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by dog. Get hubby to hold Sam's head firmly with one hand while rubbing Sam's throat vigorously.

6. Retrieve Sammie from on top of the recliner, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new recliner. Carefully sweep shattered figurines from on top of fireplace and set to one side for gluing later.

7. Wrap Sam in large towel and get hubby to lie on Sammie with its head just visible from below his armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force Sammie's mouth open and blow down drinking straw.

8. Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink glass of water to take taste away.

9. Retrieve Sammie from neighbor's shed. Get another pill. Place her in cupboard and close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with fingers. Flick pill down throat with a rubber band.

10. Get a screwdriver from garage and put door back on hinges.

11. Walk down the street to fetch Sammie. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid Sam. Take last pill from foil wrap.

12. Arrange for vet to make a house call. 

13. Vet put peanut butter on spoon, stuffed pill inside and Sammie gobbled it up and looked around for more. Sigh....
